Bainham

Big news in Bainham – Lorna Langford has retired from the Bainham store, after 50 years. The store will carry on, a trip down memory lane, on the corner between paddock and massive macrocarpa. Trout wriggle in the Aorere, it rains a lot. I remember trips to the Quartz Ranges as a kid, wild turkeys in the paddock, Andrew Baker’s funeral, and long trudges to the Heaphy track.
…

How many times Ive been past the store, in dreary drizzle, sheltering under the collapsing eave, and admired the “latest” window dressing. What a shame Bainham lost it’s own post code. At least they still advertise election results – National 15, Labour 5, Greens 1. Green it is though, in Bainham, with all that rain.
Visit the local attractions- the waterfall, the river, the swingbridge. There used to be a bungee jump. The Heaphy track is still there of course, and wild Lead Hills. Bainham – population 100 – a great place.
